Tom Golemon, M.D.
Dr. Golemon was born in the piney woods of Jasper, Texas. He
majored in Biology at the University of Texas at Austin and
graduated with a B.A., cum laude. He was awarded his M.D. from
the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas.
His Family Practice Residency in Columbus, Georgia was followed
by one year of teaching as a junior faculty member and
fine-tuning his southern accent. In 1979, Dr. Golemon began a
rural practice in Lockhart, Texas where he experienced the full
spectrum of family practice and developed a special interest in
obstetrics. A decision to teach led him to Peoria in 1989. Dr.
Golemon was named Saint Francis Family Practice Teacher of the
Year in 1989, 1990, 1991, and 1992. He is currently the Program
Director for the Family Practice Residency Program here at
Methodist and is an Associate Professor at the University of
Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. In 1993 and 2000, Dr.
Golemon was given the Methodist Family Practice Residency
Teacher of the Year Award. Dr. Golemon's wife, Dr. Joan Golemon,
is also a faculty member. They have six children: Buck, Joseph,
Luke, Austin, Hayden and Katelyn. His family enjoys hiking and
camping trips. Dr. Golemon is interested in history, especially
Civil War and American History. He also enjoys golfing,
football, jogging, tennis and other sports. He pitches on the
celebrated residency co-ed softball team.
Dr. Golemon is certified by the American Board of Family
Practice, and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Family
Practice. He is active on many local, state and national
committees. He has several journal and textbook chapter
publications on topics ranging from premature infant care to
hair disorders. He has given over 20 national presentations and
has been very successful in obtaining grants for the residency
program. He also continues to be very active in teaching the
residents as evidenced by his teaching awards. In addition, he
is very active in his community service activities.
