Joan Goleman, M.D.
Dr. Golemon was born in Greenfield, Illinois, the second of
five daughters born to Dr. James Reid, a "front-line" rural
family physician. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Blackburn
College in Carlinville, Illinois with a B.A. major in Biology.
Dr. Golemon received her M.D. from the University of Illinois
College of Medicine in Peoria, Illinois and finished residency
training in Family Practice at Methodist Medical Center where
she was the recipient of the Resident Teacher of the Year Award.
Dr. Golemon is currently an Associate Director for the Family
Practice Residency Program where she is in charge of the sports
medicine curriculum. In addition, she has earned her Certificate
of Additional Qualification in Sports Medicine. Dr. Golemon is a
member of the American Academy of Family Practice, the Illinois
Academy of Family Medicine, and the Society of Teachers of
Family Medicine. Dr. Golemon's husband, Dr. Thomas Golemon, is
also a faculty member. They currently have six children: Buck,
Joseph, Luke, Austin, Hayden and Katelyn. Dr. Golemon enjoys
refinishing antiques, playing golf, volleyball, racquetball, and
was instrumental in establishing the celebrated residency co-ed
softball team.
Dr. Golemon is a Diplomate within the American Board of Family
Physicians. She is actively involved with advising and mentoring
medical students as well as the student skills workshop. She
serves as team physician for Elmwood High School and for Eureka
College. In addition, she is the Primary Care Team Physician for
the Peoria Pirates, the local arena league football team. She
has given several local and state presentations ranging from
ADHD to Sports Medicine related topics. Dr. Golemon won the 1999
MMCI Family Practice Teacher of the year award.
