Jo Sack-Melaik, M.A.
Jo is one of eight children and was raised in the small
community of Farmersville, IL. She came to Peoria to attend
Saint Francis College of Nursing and graduated in 1967. She
married John Sack in 1968 and worked part time in various areas
of nursing as they raised their three children, Kevin, Kathy and
Keri. Jo's husband, John, was killed in 1987. Two years later Jo
returned to school to pursue her interest in counseling. She
received her BS from Saint Francis College of Joliet in 1993 and
her MA in Human Development and Counseling from Bradley
University in 1998. She is a member of Chi Sigma Iota (a
professional honors society). Jo worked as a therapist with the
Antioch Group, Inc. in Peoria during her practicum. She
continued working there from 1998 until November 1999 when she
joined the Family Medical Center. Jo is a certified drug and
alcohol counselor included grief and loss, codependency, ACOA
issues (adult children of alcoholics) and COA issues (children
of alcoholics). She especially enjoys working with couples,
teenagers and young adults. Jo married Larry Melaik in 1993. She
said her greatest privilege and joy in life has been parenting.
She enjoys time with family, walking, hiking, planting flowers,
reading biographies and spending time in nature.
