Roberta Van Zant, D.O.

Dr. Van Zant is a Texan at heart after growing up in San Antonio and living in Houston and Fort Worth as an adult. She graduated from Texas Lutheran University with a B.A. in Biology and then moved to Houston to work as a research assistant in Molecular Biology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. She then acted as a medical editor for a neurosurgeon at Baylor College of Medicine helping him to edit a major textbook on head and spine trauma. It was while working as a medical editor that she discovered her true passion lay in becoming a family physician. She received her D.O. degree at the University of North Texas Health Science Center Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, Texas, and went on to complete residency training at Harrisburg Family Practice Residency Program in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Dr. Van Zant then moved to Peoria to become part of the inaugural class of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP)/Methodist Medical Center’s Women’s Health Fellowship in 2003-2004. Upon completing her fellowship, she joined the faculty at the UICOMP Department of Family and Community Medicine with a primary responsibility of assisting the program in gaining osteopathic dual accreditation for its residency training. In addition, she sees female patients at Methodist’s Women’s Health Center and helps out with the UICOMP medical student curriculum.

Dr. Van Zant and her husband, John, had their first child, Ella in April 2005; she was welcomed home by their three dogs - two basset hounds and a golden lab. Dr. Van Zant’s interests include landscape gardening, cooking, a variety of exercise activities from yoga to aerobic kickboxing, walking the dogs, traveling, fishing, and eating at good restaurants!
