Roberta Van Zant, D.O.
Dr. Van Zant is a Texan at heart after growing up in San
Antonio and living in Houston and Fort Worth as an adult. She
graduated from Texas Lutheran University with a B.A. in Biology
and then moved to Houston to work as a research assistant in
Molecular Biology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. She then acted
as a medical editor for a neurosurgeon at Baylor College of
Medicine helping him to edit a major textbook on head and spine
trauma. It was while working as a medical editor that she
discovered her true passion lay in becoming a family physician.
She received her D.O. degree at the University of North Texas
Health Science Center Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in
Fort Worth, Texas, and went on to complete residency training at
Harrisburg Family Practice Residency Program in Harrisburg,
Pennsylvania. Dr. Van Zant then moved to Peoria to become part
of the inaugural class of the University of Illinois College of
Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP)/Methodist Medical Center’s Women’s
Health Fellowship in 2003-2004. Upon completing her fellowship,
she joined the faculty at the UICOMP Department of Family and
Community Medicine with a primary responsibility of assisting
the program in gaining osteopathic dual accreditation for its
residency training. In addition, she sees female patients at
Methodist’s Women’s Health Center and helps out with the UICOMP
medical student curriculum.
Dr. Van Zant and her husband, John, had their first child, Ella
in April 2005; she was welcomed home by their three dogs - two
basset hounds and a golden lab. Dr. Van Zant’s interests include
landscape gardening, cooking, a variety of exercise activities
from yoga to aerobic kickboxing, walking the dogs, traveling,
fishing, and eating at good restaurants! |
