ABOUT THE IRB

Our mission is to:
  1. Assure that IRB members are well educated in all aspects of human subject protection and prospective review of research involving humans.

  2. Assure that all investigators are cognizant and compliant with principles and regulations of human research and protection of human subjects.

  3. Foster open communication with institutional officials and investigators to establish a method of accountability of the IRB to its mission and be proactive in developing resources to enhance the activities of the IRB.

  4. Develop communication and education programs for the public to foster increased community awareness of local research activities and the commitment of the Institution, IRB and investigators to the progress of medical treatment and the safety of human subjects.


WHAT IS AN IRB? WHAT IS AN IRB?

An Institutional Review Board is a board, committee, or other group formally designated by an institution to review, to approve the initiation of, and to conduct continuing review of biomedical research involving the participation of human subjects in accordance with the FDA and OPRR Regulations.
