Hospitals and Clinics
OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, with 710 licensed beds and 550
staffed beds of which 127 are pediatrics, is the primary
teaching hospital for the University of Illinois College of
Medicine at Peoria. It is the major referral center for a
23-county region in north-central Illinois. OSF Saint Francis
serves as both a primary care community hospital for
metropolitan Peoria as well as a tertiary care center complete
with Level I trauma services and Level Ill intensive car e
units. OSF Saint Francis is the 3rd largest Medical Center in
Illinois with 5,000 employees and supports 9 residency programs.
The Children's Hospital of Illinois is a hospital within OSF
Saint Francis Medical Center and is the busiest children's
hospital in Illinois outside of Chicago.
Medicine-Pediatrics interns begin on-site with separate
Medicine and Pediatrics continuity clinics weekly, graduating
into combined continuity clinic experiences during their third
and fourth years. This hybrid of separate traditional clinics
and newer combined experiences assures that each resident will
be immersed in the basic tenets of outpatient care within each
discipline before being expected to integrate the two
disciplines in the fast pace of an all-ages setting.
Month-long block rotations are available in the offices of
Medicine-Pediatrics attending physicians across the central part
of Illinois, many in rural areas. Central Illinois is rich with
Medicine-Pediatrics-trained physicians, and our trainees are
strongly encouraged to avail themselves of these educational
opportunities.
