DUTY HOURS

Duty Hours and Education

Dr. Rammos, P6Y4, grabbing a cup of coffee with the trauma team.

The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Illinois at Peoria is in compliance with the ACGME guidelines.  We are therefore in accordance with the 80-hour work restriction.  Our goal is to maximize education within that time frame, and thus there are no duties regarding non-educational activities such as obtaining blood, transporting patients, or filling out non-essential paperwork.  OSF and Methodist hospital utilize filmless technology for imaging such that there is minimal to no time spent on obtaining films for clinic or the operating room.  Additionally, there are six APNs who aid in consults, monitoring, and discharge of patients at both hospitals.
