OSF SAINT
FRANCIS MEDICAL CENTER
OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, with 616 licensed
beds and 554 staffed beds, is the primary teaching
hospital for the University of Illinois College of
Medicine at Peoria. It is the major referral center for
a 23-county region in north-central Illinois. OSF Saint
Francis serves as both a primary care community hospital
for metropolitan Peoria as well as a tertiary care
center complete with Level 1 trauma services and Level 1 intensive care units. OSF Saint Francis is the 5th
largest Medical Center in Illinois with 5,000 employees
and supports 9 residency programs and 4 fellowships. OSF
is currently in the midst of completing a $230 million
plus addition to the ED Department, Surgery and
Children's Hospital of Illinois. It will be completed in 2010.

THE ILLINOIS NEUROLOGICAL
INSTITUTE
The
Illinois Neurological Institute is organized as a
hospital within a hospital at the Saint
Francis Medical Center. In this role it is the major
clinical facility for the residencies in neurology,
neurosurgery, and the fellowships in vascular neurology, neuroradiology, and spinal neurosurgery.
The
Institute has 90 adult beds including a 31 bed intensive
care and step down unit and all pediatric patients are
cared for in the Children’s Hospital of Illinois,
included in the Saint Francis Campus. The service has
three dedicated newly constructed operating rooms and two
interventional biplane neuro-interventional suites. The
Radiosurgery service has a Perfexion Gamma Knife, a Varian
Trilogy, Rapid Arc unit and access to a CyberKnife for a full
complement of Radiosurgery of brain and spine.
The
Institute is staffed by 17 neurologists, 8 neurology
residents, a stroke fellow, 7 neurosurgeons, 6
neurosurgery residents, a spine fellow, three pediatric neurologists, 5
neuroradiologists, two of whom are interventionalists, four neuropsycologists,two neuro-ophthalmologists, a
neuroradiology fellow, two radiation
oncologists, two sterotactic radiosurgeons, a neuropathologist, and there is an active
group of seven associated PhD scientists in the brain
tumor biology section at the College of Medicine. There
are over 60 faculty and residents, and approximately 500
staff in the INI.
Construction is beginning on a 120,000 sq ft INI
outpatient care center on campus that will provide a
very effective integrated patient care center for the
neurosurgery, neurology, neuroradiology, and physiatry
programs. |
