THE ILLINOIS NEUROLOGICAL INSTITUTE

The Illinois Neurological Institute is organized as a hospital within a hospital at the major teaching hospital of the University of Illinois at Peoria, Saint Francis Medical Center. In this role it is the major clinical facility for the residencies in neurology, neurosurgery, and the fellowships in vascular neurology, neuroradiology, and spinal neurosurgery.

The Institute has 75 adult beds including a 22 bed intensive care and step down unit and all pediatric patients are cared for in the Children’s Hospital of Illinois, included in the Saint Francis Campus.  The service has two dedicated newly constructed operating rooms and two interventional biplane neuro-interventional suites.  The Radiosurgery service has a Gamma Knife, a Varian Trilogy, and access to a CyberKnife for a full complement of Radiosurgery of brain and spine.

The Institute is staffed by 15 neurologists, 8 neurology residents, a stroke fellow, 7 neurosurgeons, 6 neurosurgery residents, five neuroradiologists, two of whom are interventionalists, a neuroradiology fellow, three physiatrists, two radiation oncologists, three physists,  a neuropathologist, and there is an active group of seven associated PhD scientists in the brain tumor biology section at the College of Medicine.  There are over 50 faculty and residents, an approximately 400 staff in the INI.

Construction is beginning on a 120,000 sq ft  INI outpatient care center on campus that will provide a very effective integrated patient care center for the neurosurgery, neurology, neuroradiology, and physiatry programs.

METHODIST MEDICAL CENTER
This is our secondary teaching facility. We also have a research resident at Methodist. Methodist Medical Center is conveniently located ‘across the street’ from OSF Saint Francis. It is a 346-bed medical center with a nationally recognized HeartCare Center in collaboration with the world-renowned Arizona Heart Institute, an Ambulatory Surgery Center that is one of the nation’s busiest facilities, a Level II Trauma Center, and state-of-the-art diagnostic services including one of the world’s most advanced Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanners.

ASSOCIATED UNIVERSITY NEUROSURGEONS
Associated University Neurosurgeons (AUN) is the private practice associated with the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP).  It is the region’s largest practice; the only team with the expertise, technology and resources to provide care in all subspecialty fields of neurosurgery.  Many of its physicians and employees are part of the Department of Neurosurgery at the UICOMP.
