FELLOWSHIPS
The
Department of Neurosurgery offers a one-year
fellowship in spine surgery currently headed by Dr. Dzung Dinh,
Chief of the Spine Subsection. The goal of this program is to
train technically superior surgeons while at the same time
emphasizing current diagnostic and management strategies.
Spinal disorders account for nearly 50% of the case volume,
approximating or exceeding 900 cases annually at OSF St. Francis
and Methodist Medical Center. We expect this number to climb
dramatically as we are adding a spine-fellowship trained faculty
member in the summer of 2007. The whole range of pathology is
represented including infection, neoplasms, degenerative,
deformity and trauma. Basic and clinical research can also be
completed during this time as there is significant R01 funding
for stem-cell transplantation and mechanisms of tumor invasion.
The candidate should be a senior level resident or neurosurgeon
who has completed training at an accredited neurosurgery
residency program.
