OPERATIVE STATISTICS

Numbers are approximate.  Percentages based upon 2000 cases performed during the 2005-6 academic year combined at OSF/Methodist medical centers.

Cases completed as a PGY-6 are high, approximating 500-600 cases. The vast majority of this year is spent refining techniques and acquiring the skills necessary in preparation for academic and clinical practice.  In recent years, our residents have graduated with confidence in addressing a diverse range of neurosurgical pathology from complex spine to cerebrovascular as well as functional subspecialties.

Chief resident case volume:

7/1/03-6/30/04 - 524

7/1/04-6/30/05 - 817

7/1/05-6/30/06 - 695

Below is an example of a chief-resident’s caseload accrued over one-year who entered general neurosurgical practice.  This reflects the individual interest of the resident and thus case numbers in any subgroup may fluctuate considerably given future goals.
