Our department is committed to the education of
medical students in general Obstetrics and Gynecology. Currently
our third year medical students rotate for 8 weeks dividing
their time equally between Obstetrics and Gynecology.
While on Obstetrics their time is spent with 1 week of didactic
lectures, two weeks of MFM and and one week on Labor and
Delivery. They are expected to learn the intrapartum and
postpartum care of the uncomplicated pregnancy as well as the
antenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care of the high-risk
pregnancy.
Fourth year medical student electives are available in:
Maternal Fetal Medicine
The student will work directly with obstetrics residents and
three subspecialists in maternal-fetal medicine on a busy
high-risk obstetric service that includes over 300 maternal
transfers per year from outlying hospitals, high-risk obstetric
clinic, formal teaching sessions two times per week, weekly
perinatology conference, daily rounds with one of the faculty
and an active fetal ultrasonography service. The student will be
responsible for initial work-up, daily patient rounds, and
assisting with the delivery of pregnant patients with a wide
range of medical and obstetrical complications.
