The student creates his or her fourth-year schedule by means of a class lottery, usually held in the spring of the junior year. At the lottery required rotations to be taken in Peoria are arranged: four weeks each of Radiology and Medical Neurology, eight weeks of surgical subspecialties and four weeks of either a Medicine or Pediatrics
subinternship. The remainder of the required thirty-six required weeks is elective. Sixteen weeks of the fourth year must be taken in Peoria.
Each student's schedule must be approved by his/her advisor and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs before the lottery. Changes can be made in a student's schedule, provided such changes have the approval of the advisor and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. All changes must be made not later than 30 days prior to the start of a rotation. The change procedure may be time consuming, and students are encouraged to plan carefully so as to minimize the need for change. We do understand, however, career plans change as the year progresses, and we make every effort to accommodate necessary changes. |
