Dr. Richard Anderson, originally from Yorkville, Illinois,
received his undergraduate degree, Magna Cum Laude, in
Biochemistry from Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois
in 1988 . He received his doctorate in medicine from Loyola
University Stritch School of Medicine, Maywood, Illinois in
1992 and completed a Surgical Internship there. His
residency in General Surgery was completed at the University
of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria in 1998. In 2000,
Dr. Anderson completed a Fellowship program at Washington
University, Barnes Hospital, in St. Louis, Missouri in
Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Anderson is board certified in both
General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery by the American Board
of Surgery.
He is Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery and Chief,
Section of Cardiothoracic Surgery. He was the recipient of
the
2004-2005 UICOMP ‘Outstanding Service Award’, the
resident-elected 2005 UICOMP Department of Surgery ‘Faculty
Teaching Award’, the student-elected 2002, 2003
(co-recipient), 2004 (co-recipient) and 2005 (c0-recipient)
UICOMP Department of Surgery ‘Teacher of the Year’ Awards
and the 2003 UICOMP ‘Golden Apple Award’, an honor given by
the medical students to one UICOMP faculty member. Dr.
Anderson is a member of many surgical societies.
He currently holds the office of Illinois State Chair for
the Commission on Cancer for the American College of
Surgeons and was President of the Peoria Medical Society
from 2004 to 2005.
He is an active member on many hospital committees.
He lives in the Peoria area with his wife Janice and their
two children.
