Dr. Julius P. Bonello is originally from Minnesota and
received his undergraduate degree in 1970 from the College
of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. He conducted
postgraduate studies and received his doctorate of medicine
at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. His training
continued at the University of Minnesota Hospitals, where he
completed a Surgical Internship and began a General Surgery
Residency. He finished his residency at the University of
Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont in 1979. He
completed a Fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1980.
Dr. Bonello was on the surgical faculty at the Carle Clinic,
Urbana-Champaign from 1980 to 1996, serving as the Acting
Head of the Department of Surgery from 1982 to 1986 and Head
of the Department of Surgery from 1986 to 1995, He was Chair
of the Department of Colon and Rectal Surgery and Program
Director for the Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship from
1988 to 1982. Dr. Bonello has more than 24 years of
experience in Colon and Rectal Surgery.
Dr. Bonello joined our faculty in 1996. He is Associate
Professor of Clinical Surgery and Director of the G.I.
Conference for the General Surgery Residency. He was the
1998 recipient of the resident-elected UICOMP Department of
Surgery ‘Faculty Teaching Award’. He is a member of numerous
surgical societies and is on staff at all three Peoria
hospitals.
Dr. Bonello lives in Peoria with his wife and their eight
children.
