Andy
C. Chiou, M.D., M.P.H., FACS
Assistant Professor of
Surgery and Radiology Director of Endovascular Surgery and
Surgical Research Director of Surgical Education at
Methodist Medical Center Vascular and Endovascular Surgery
Dr. Andy Chiou, a native of Peoria, received his
undergraduate degree and doctorate in medicine from Boston
University in the Honors Program in Medicine. During medical
school, he obtained a Master’s of Public Health degree in
Health Care Administration. He completed his internship and
continued further graduate studies in Molecular Biology at
the University of Minnesota. He completed a General Surgery
Residency at The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in
New York City. Dr. Chiou has also completed a two-year
subspecialty Fellowship in Vascular Surgery at Northwestern
University in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Chiou recently fulfilled distinguished service to his
country in the U.S. Air Force, serving as the Chief of
Vascular Surgery for the worldwide flagship USAF Medical
Center in San Antonio, Texas. He received numerous military
honors and held academic appointments during this time at
both the University of Texas in San Antonio and at the
Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences at
Bethesda, Maryland.
He recently retired from the military at the rank of
Lieutenant Colonel. Dr. Chiou joined our faculty in 2004.
In addition, Dr. Chiou has an extensive number of
publications and he has presented his work both nationally
and internationally. He has obtained advanced training in
endovascular techniques and he is a member of multiple
national societies, including the Society for Vascular
Surgery and the Society of Interventional Radiology. He is
board certified by the American Board of Surgery in both
General Surgery and Vascular Surgery. Dr. Chiou holds
appointments as Assistant Professor of Surgery and
Radiology. He serves as Director of Endovascular Surgery and
Surgical Research and Director of Surgical Education at
Methodist Medical Center, a secondary teaching facility.
Dr. Chiou resides in the Peoria area with his wife and their
two children.
