Information For Visiting Medical Students

Electives PicturesMedical students from other medical colleges accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) are invited to participate in electives offered by the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. Students applying for electives must be fourth-year medical students in good academic standing; must have successfully completed the equivalent of any prerequisites listed for the desired course prior to participating in the elective; must provide complete documentation of immunizations; must provide proof of malpractice coverage from your home institution; and, must have had universal precautions training prior to arrival.

Visiting students may apply for electives at any time, but applications will be held until after the UICOM-P lottery for M-4 students, usually late March. To apply for an elective, you may download the application form or contact Sandy McGee.

The electives offered by each department are located in the department’s section of the Electives Catalog. Most departments also offer individualized electives, customized to individuals’ interests. There is no application fee to enroll in electives at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. Dormitory housing is provided at no cost, on a space-available basis, to visiting students who participate in any of our electives. Cafeteria meals are also available at a reduced cost.
