Dr. Samir Gupta, originally from Michigan, received his
undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago. He
received his doctorate in medicine from the University of
Chicago Pritzer School of Medicine. He completed a Surgical
Internship at the University of Florida, Gainesville. Dr.
Gupta completed his General Surgery Residency and a
Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at Michigan State
University. Dr. Gupta is board certified in General Surgery
by the American Board of Surgery and is board eligible in
Surgical Critical Care.
He is Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery, Chief,
Section of Surgical Critical Care, and Director of the
Critical Care Conference. Dr. Gupta was the recipient of the
2004 resident-elected UICOMP Department of Surgery ‘Faculty
Teaching Award’, the 2000, 2001, 2003 (co-recipient), 2004
(co-recipient) and 2005 (co-recipient) student-elected
UICOMP Department of Surgery ‘Teacher of the Year Award’,
and the 2001-2002 UICOMP ‘Outstanding Teaching Award’.
Dr. Gupta and his wife Dr. Julie Wohrley reside in Peoria
with their three children.
