Research and
Education
Medical research
opportunities for residents in general surgery are extremely
favorable at the University at Illinois College of Medicine
at Peoria. The residents are required to initiate and
complete at least one project in basic and/or clinical
research. Help in selection, design, and implementation of
these projects is available from the faculty and members of
the departmental research committee. The department has
several faculty members on the editorial boards of prominent
surgery journals who also support resident research
projects. Residents are encouraged to prepare the results
of their projects for presentation at regional or national
surgery conferences as well as for articles submitted for
publication in refereed journals.
