Lorin
D. Whittaker, Jr, M.D., FACS
Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery
Surgery Clerkship Director
A native of Peoria, Dr. Lorin D. Whittaker, Jr, M.D.
received his undergraduate degree in Pre-Med from the
University of Illinois at Champaign and his medical degree
from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at
Chicago. He completed his Surgical Internship at the
University of Illinois Research and Educational Hospitals in
Chicago and his Residency in General Surgery at the Mayo
Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Dr. Whittaker has been on our faculty since 1971, has been
the Surgery Clerkship Director since 1991 and further
exhibits his dedication to the college by serving on a great
number of committees. He has received numerous awards in
recognition of his academic service including: the 2000
UICOMP ‘Outstanding Teaching Award’, the 2004 UICOMP
‘Outstanding Service Award’, the 2005 UICOMP ‘Faculty of the
Year Award’, and the 2005 (all-campus) UIC ‘Faculty of the
Year Award’.
In the surgical community, Dr, Whittaker served as President
of the Peoria Medical Society, two terms as President of the
Illinois Chapter of the American College of Surgeons,
Governor of the American College of Surgeons from 1989-1995,
and currently serves on numerous committees for the
Association for Surgical Education..
Dr. Whittaker is board certified in General Surgery by the
American Board of Surgery and is on the active staff of OSF
Saint Francis Medical Center and Methodist Medical Center.
Dr. Whittaker and his wife Rebecca reside in Peoria.
