Radiology Journal Club Protocol
The radiology residents are to follow this outline when presenting their articles at Journal
Club. This protocol follows an evidence-based format.

I. What is being studied?
    a. The study objective
    b. The patients included
    c. The patients excluded
    d. The techniques/interventions/modalities compared
    e. The outcomes evaluated

II. Are the results of the study valid?
    a. Primary questions
        1. Was the assignment of patients randomized?
        2. Were all patients who entered the trial properly accounted for
and attributed at its conclusion?
        3. Was follow-up complete?
    b. Secondary questions
        1. Were patients’ health workers and study personnel appropriate
“blinded”?
        2. Were the groups similar at the start of the trial?
        3. Aside from experimental intervention, were the groups treated
equally?

III. What were the results?
    a. How large was the effect?
    b. How precise was the estimate of the effect?

IV. Will the results help me in my practice?
    a. Can the results be applied to my practice?
    b. Were all clinically important outcomes considered?
    c. Are the likely diagnostic/therapeutic benefits worth the potential harms
and costs?
