Authors Dinner
A winery tour, a walk at sunset in a vineyard, a dinner and
presentation describes the UICOMP Dept of Surgery Authors
Dinner. This dinner takes place periodically to congratulate
and celebrate faculty and residents (& their spouses) who
have recently published in peer-reviewed articles or book
chapters. The last Authors Dinner took place on July 19,
2007. The keynote address was given Dr. Thomas Santoro,
Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and was
entitled 'Surgical Nobel Laureates'. The next dinner date is
yet to be announced.

Stuart
S. Roberts, MD Endowed Lectureship for Excellence in
Surgical Education
The Department of Surgery at the University of Illinois
College of Medicine at Peoria has established an endowment
to honor Stuart S. Roberts, MD for his distinguished medical
career. The endowed lectureship enables the Department of
Surgery to host prominent surgeons and scholars for
presentations, ultimately enhancing the training and
education of medical students, residents, and practicing
physicians. In a career that spanned more than 40 years, Dr.
Stuart Roberts was a scholar, master surgeon, role model,
and life saver. To his colleagues and co-workers, he was an
inspiration and a loyal friend. To his patients and their
families he was a source of hope and an extender of life.
For everyone who came into contact with him, he symbolized
what is ideal in the profession of medicine. Dr. Roberts
received his undergraduate and medical degrees at the
University of Illinois. He completed his residency training
at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Memorial-Sloan
Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Roberts’ tenure in
Peoria spanned more than 20 years engaging in academic
medicine and a private surgical practice. In August of 2006
the heliport at Ohio State University was dedicated to Dr.
Roberts.
