Teaching Facilities

OSF Saint Francis Medical Center     - map and driving directions

OSF Saint Francis Medical Center is our main teaching facility. The UICOMP Department of Surgery and the General Surgery Residency Program are located in the North Building of OSF Saint Francis. Our teaching faculty and our residents spend the majority of their time in this facility. All but one of our surgery services is located here.

OSF Saint Francis is the third largest hospital in Illinois and one of the largest Catholic hospitals in the United States.  More than 4,000 employees and more than 600 physicians compose the staff of the medical center.  It serves as the resource hospital in emergency medical services for most of north central Illinois with a Level I Trauma Center with Life Flight, the state’s only hospital-based, two helicopter program.  A ‘hospital within a hospital’ is the Children’s Hospital of Illinois located in OSF Saint Francis and serving 90 counties in central Illinois in the care of premature and high-risk infants and providing children with the finest possible comprehensive health care.
